Steven Cook 7000 Euro reward family statement
UPDATE: 28/02/06

Five months since the disappearance of Steve, the Cook family remain positive and hopeful that they will be reunited with their beloved son, brother and uncle.

The last sighting of Steve was between midnight and 1am on the morning of Thursday, September 1 last year by a PR girl outside Mike's pub at the top of the Malia strip.

Steve was on the first night of a much-anticipated holiday with a group of friends.

Since the last update there have been a number of potential sightings of the 20 year old following a television appeal by his brother Chris on the Greek missing persons programme 'Light at the End of the Tunnel'.

These sightings have yet to be confirmed as definitely being Steve, including a particularly positive one some two months after his disappearance by a trucker who claims to have dropped someone off matching Steve's description in the Stalidas area on the night the show went out.

The Cook family made another appearance on BBC's Inside Out to talk about Steve's disappearance and how the investigation has been progressing.

Chris said: "The police, both in the UK and in Greece are continuing with the investigation and chasing any new leads but in light of the amount of time that has passed it's vital that we keep people up to date and keep Steve's name and casein the news. We remain upbeat and positive."

British Police have now returned from visiting the island where they met with Greek authorities and continue to liase with police on the island.

A charity auction night is planned for next month to raise cash to fund more trips to the island where Steve was last seen. Watch this space for more details on how you can help.

International charity 'The Smile of a Child' has alsorecently got involved with the search for Steve and is currently in the area distributing posters and drumming up much needed publicity.

Steve's parents Norman and Pat have also visited the island where they met with the head of the British Consulate for Athens and spoke to ex pat residents.

Mr Cook said: "We will never give up. Steve was born six weeks early and there were several times when we thought that we would lose him, but he fought through that against all the odds. So we will never give up, whatever we have to do and no matter what doors we have to kick down; Steve fought
for his right to life and we will fight for him."
